Edgard Torres became the Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church in August of 2007.  He came to Caney from the High Desert area in Southern California where he spent several years working as the assistant director of the department of student ministries at First Baptist Church of Hesperia.  He was also an Educational Assistant at George Magnet School and taught an after school math enrichment class.

Edgard came to the Lord when he was 18 years old.  The consequences to the sinful decisions he had made as a teenager had caught up to him.  Not knowing where to turn to, he talked briefly with the youth pastor at FBC Hesperia.  Mulling over the things he'd learned about himself, sin, Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice for weeks, he finally met the Lord at 2am while sitting awake reading his bible attentively for the first time.  He gave himself over to the Lord's desire for his life and followed Him into a life of servitude and ministry.  Finishing the local college he decided he would follow the Lord anywhere He called, even if it meant leaving behind his friends and family and moving 2,000 miles away to a small town he'd never heard of.
